Mickey Hyde

Pavilion Central School can lay claim to many outstanding graduates in varied fields including Medicine, Finance, Education, Science, Communication and Business. However, there is only one graduate who entered the field of Professional Sports during the school's entire history. The Pavilion Alumni Hall of Fame Committee has chosen to honor that person, Mickey Hyde, not only for his accomplishments in the sports field but also for his successful transition into the business world at the end of his baseball career. He is presently the Branch Manager of the Tompkins-Bank of Castile in LeRoy, NY. He is also an upstanding member of his community deeply involved in many aspects of service to several organizations and activities. His achievements will serve as a role model for Pavilion students in their future endeavors.

Mickey, whose namesake was the famous Yankee baseball player, Mickey Mantle, was an outstanding athlete in his high school years participating in basketball, soccer and baseball. He was a Genesee Region All-Star in both baseball and basketball. He also participated in the school plays and was a member of the Chess Club. After graduation from Pavilion in 1984, he continued his education at Genesee Community College where he majored in Business Management and was honored as the GCC 1987 Scholar-Athlete of the Year. He was also named to the All-District, All-Region Team and was a two-time All-Conference player while playing baseball at GCC. In 2010, he was inducted into the Genesee Community College Athletic Hall of Fame.

Upon completing his A.A.S. Degree in 1987, Mickey attended a tryout for the Philadelphia Phillies baseball team and was signed as a member of their organization. During the five seasons that he played professional baseball as an outfielder, he was named the Phillies "Outstanding Player of Spring Training," Florida State League "Player of the Week" as well as the Phillies "Minor League Player of the Month." Mickey progressed through the organization culminating with a call-up to the Triple A Scranton Wilkes Barre team where he finished his professional baseball career.

In 1992, Mickey's life took a different direction when his baseball career ended. Returning to Florida, he accepted a position with Raymond James Financial Associates where he worked for seven years as an Institutional Sales Assistant and Senior Compliance Officer. He also continued his education attending Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, Florida and earned his Bachelor's Degree in Business Management graduating with Honors in 2003. While there, he was named to the Dean's list and obtained licenses in several securities-related fields.

Mickey made another life changing decision in his career and returned to his home town area in June 2003. He accepted a position with the Bank of Castile in LeRoy where he has been employed for the past fifteen years. He has received several professional awards including being named Genesee County Business Education Alliance "Partner of the Year" in 2013 and was instrumental in Bank of Castile/Tompkins Insurance being named the 2011-2012 Genesee County Business Education Alliance "Business Partner of the Year." One of his proudest honors was "Mickey Hyde Night" in 1993 which was sponsored by Pavilion Little League recognizing his professional baseball career.

Mickey and his wife Toni reside in LeRoy, with their daughters Naomi and Samantha. Mickey volunteers there as an adviser with the Genesee Region Junior Achievement Program, serves as a judge in the Business Plan Challenge and teaches two classes. He actively participates in the High School Job Fair, Mock Interviews, Career Day, and Sixth Grade Lunch with Leaders Program. He has served as the assistant baseball coach for the LeRoy Varsity baseball team for four years and assisted with the GCC baseball program. Mickey also participated in the Young Entrepreneurs Club at Pavilion High School where he was a panelist and investor. In addition he has previously coached boys youth baseball and both of his daughter's softball teams.

Mickey is not only active volunteering with young people but has also served on the boards of several local organizations including the Genesee Orleans Ministry of Concern, Leadership Genesee's Funding Committee, Wyoming County Community Action and the Genesee Community College Walkathon. He is a member of the LeRoy-Pavilion-Stafford Kiwanis Club, LeRoy Moose Club, Sons of the American Legion, Rochester Press Radio Club and actively supports the LeRoy Christian Community Project. He has participated in Genesee County United Way Day of Caring and the Oatka Fest parade representing the Bank of Castile.

Mickey Hyde is an outstanding example for the students of PCS. Mickey "followed his dreams" but demonstrated that when one door closes, you open another. His accomplishments as well as his unselfish contributions and commitment to the youth and the community make him worthy of his place in the Hall of Fame.
